Sebastian Berchesan is the Executive Secretary of Stand Up for Europe, managing the local and European projects in connection to strengthening democratic values, participation and engagement of young people in decision-making processes. He is responsible for the relations with partner organisations and the European Institutions.
Stand Up for Europe (SUFE) was created in 2013 as a pan-European citizen’s movement, combining bottom-up mobilisation and participation with a top-down reflection. One of the major aims of the organisation from its beginnings was to become a prominent federalist think-and-do tank. Our Brussels-based NGO acknowledges the difficult challenges Europe is facing given the complex and globalised current context while underlining that only together the European citizens are strong enough to face global issues.
Through social and cultural actions, the organisation wishes to empower people to make their voices heard and actively take part in the political life of the EU. These activities include a mix of online and offline campaigns intended to bridge the gap between the European Institutions and certain groups of society that are disconnected from the EU’s political life. Informative social media content combined with in-person debates, round tables, trainings and other interactive formats are predominant activities performed by the organisation. SUFE’s mission is to stand up for European citizens by encouraging the EU institutions, societies, and governments to foster a peaceful, integrated, sustainable and united Europe from the ground up.
