Jan Helmer is the General Secretary / CEO of European Movement Denmark.
European Movement Denmark advocates for strong European cooperation that is closely connected to the citizens of Europe. We strive to bring the EU debate to all parts of Denmark, ensuring that all Danes have the opportunity to engage in the European dimension of our democracy. The European Movement employs seven full-time staff, two of whom work as consultants for the European Parliament and the European Commission. Additionally, there are three student employees.
The European Movement has a long tradition (since 1948) of organising events, debates, campaigns, and educational activities about European cooperation, values, and democracy. We achieve this through various events, including visits across the country to high schools, vocational schools, and more, where we provide teaching and information. We conduct presentations, games, and workshops to engage young people and the rest of the population in the EU debate. We also often work with specific EU themes, using games and interactive activities in our teaching to make the EU more understandable. We have had great success with dilemma games, EU role-plays, and debate competitions, where participants gain knowledge about how the EU addresses specific cases in a different and engaging way.
