A video production for the 10th anniversary of the European citizens' initiative by the European Economic and Social Committee.

2023 

  • In accordance with Article 11 of the ECI Regulation, the use of individual online collection systems was allowed only for initiatives registered before 31 December 2022. Citizens’ initiatives registered after 1 January 2023 can collect support online only with the use of the central online collection system (collection of signatures on paper forms is still allowed). This system is provided by the European Commission. 
  • The Commission adopts the first report on the application of  Regulation (EU) 2019/788 on 6 December 2023.

Legislative path followed by the Regulation:

The Lisbon Treaty (introducing the European citizens’ initiative) enters into force.

The EU institutions start work on creating the rules and procedures for this new instrument.
