- In accordance with Article 11 of the ECI Regulation, the use of individual online collection systems was allowed only for initiatives registered before 31 December 2022. Citizens’ initiatives registered after 1 January 2023 can collect support online only with the use of the central online collection system (collection of signatures on paper forms is still allowed). This system is provided by the European Commission.
- The Commission adopts the first report on the application of Regulation (EU) 2019/788 on 6 December 2023.

Notice: Withdrawal of the United Kingdom and EU rules in the field of the European Citizens' Initiative. Any reference in this notice to 30 March 2019 at 00.00 (CET), as the withdrawal date of the United Kingdom from the European Union, must be read as referring to 1 February 2020 at 00.00 (CET). - On 15 July 2020, the European Parliament and the Council adopt temporary measures to address the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the implementation of the European citizens' initiative. The new rules allow for an extension of the collection periods of citizens' initiatives affected by the pandemic.
