Ambasádori európskej iniciatívy občanov prispievajú k šíreniu povedomia o európskej iniciatíve občanov, k posilneniu diskusie a podpore občanov, aby sa angažovali vo veciach, na ktorých im záleží. Túto prácu vykonávajú ako dobrovoľníci.

Pochádzajú zo širokého spektra organizácií pôsobiacich na európskej, štátnej alebo regionálnej úrovni a všetci majú jedno spoločné – odborné poznatky o participatívnej demokracii a cieľ povzbudiť občanov, aby sa zapájali do tvorby politík.

Okrem toho každý členský štát vymenoval na pomoc skupinám organizátorov národné kontaktné miesta pre európsku iniciatívu občanov.
