Kansalaisaloitelähettiläiden tehtävänä on levittää tietoa eurooppalaisista kansalaisaloitteista, toimia keskustelunavaajina ja auttaa ihmisiä ajamaan tärkeinä pitämiään asioita. Lähettiläät toimivat tehtävissään vapaaehtoisina.
Lähettiläät edustavat monenlaisia organisaatioita, joista osa toimii Euroopan ja osa kansallisella tai alueellisella tasolla. Taustastaan riippumatta he kaikki ovat osallistavan demokratian asiantuntijoita, jotka haluavat kannustaa kansalaisia vaikuttamaan päätöksentekoon.
